Dr CK Mathew

Dr Mathew is a retired civil servant belonging to the Indian Administrative Service belonging to the 1977 batch of Rajasthan cadre. Post retirement, he is working as a Visiting Professor in the Azim Premji University

In his early career in the civil service, he has worked in a number of assignments including that of District Collector in two districts of Rajasthan, Special Secretary in the Finance Department and Secretary or Principal Secretary in Departments such as Irrigation, Mines, Education, Energy, Information Technology, Disaster Management. He has been Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Rajasthan and Additional Chief Secretary in the Finance Department. In 2012 and 2013 he held the post of Chief Secretary of the state. After 37 years of public service he retired in 2014.

After superannuation, he worked for about four years as a Senior Fellow in the Public Affairs Centre, Bengaluru where he developed an index for the measurement of the quality of governance in the states of India, known as the Public Affairs Index. For a short while, he was also Special Rapporteur for the southern states under the National Human Rights Commission. He is on the Board of Management of a few educational institutions. He is also a member of the National Working Committee of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church

He has a Master’s degree in English Literature. In 2015, he obtained a doctorate in English Literature. His doctoral thesis was on ‘Symbolism in the selected poems of Emily Dickinson.’ The thesis was also published as a book. He has also written two novels as well as two non-fiction books, both of which were published by the Azim Premji University. He is an avid reader and loves music, even trying his hand at the guitar.

Dr Geeta Mathew

Dr Geeta Mathew was born in Kerala but undertook most of her school and early college education in Kolkata. She obtained her BA (Hon) degree in History from Kolkata University before marrying Mathew.

Many of her educational attainments followed thereafter. She completed her post-graduation in English Literature from Rajasthan University and also obtained a B.Ed degree. She then went on to acquire her doctorate in 1992: her doctoral thesis was on the subject of ‘History and Narrative in the novels of Col. Meadows Taylor’. Before relocating to Bangalore in 2014, she had taught English in a number of prestigious schools in Rajasthan such as St Angela Sophia and St Xaviers in Jaipur as well as Mayo College for Girls in Ajmer. She is now regularly writing for her blog ‘Geeta from the Heart’ apart from caring for her mother who is struggling with the after-effects of a stroke. She spends hours every day on her Kindle and is quite a fan of streaming channels. She loves cooking and entertaining guests and is able to prepare delicious dishes at the drop of a hat. Family means everything to her.

Mathew and Geeta are the proud parents of their daughter Divya, who graduated from St Stephens in Delhi and took her MBA from Amity in Jaipur. She is currently Marketing Communications Manager at KLAY in Bangalore, one of the leading pre-school and day care centres of the country. Naveen, her husband passed out from IIT Kharagpur. He is now Vice President at Total Environment, which designs and creates environment friendly homes and office spaces. Zaara, their daughter, and our grand-daughter, spreads light and joy in all our hearts: she is presently in Class VIII at Brigade school at Whitefield.
